Spiritualized Acoustic Mainlines Live in Hong Kong
For the first time in Hong Kong: Spiritualized!

The 90s were a strange time. Between the tie dye shirts and tamagotchi, there are a few cultural relics of the decade that most people would be happy to forget. But, musically, there were some true pioneers – groups that laid the groundwork in genres that paid homage to the greats of the past while forging ahead with arguably more complex arrangements that challenged the mainstream. British space rock legends Spiritualized are one such band.
Spiritualized were formed in 1990 from the remnants of psychedelic alt-rock outfit Spaceman 3. Though members have come and gone through releases and performances, Jason Pearce, who writes, composes and sings all of the group’s material, is Spiritualized’s only constant member. The band’s seven-album back catalogue – the best known being 1997’s Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, which was named NME’s album of the year – is a masterfully sliding scale of more traditional alt-rock offerings, intertwined with grandiose cacophonies of intergalactic sounds and droning interludes, evoking a sense of the nebulous and ethereal, painting a visage of some kind of romantic space opera.
Spiritualized come to Hong Kong for the first time with all the musical bells, whistles and accompaniments – alongside Pearce – that make their live shows carry such gravitas. Spiritualized’s music offers a kind of purity in its arrangement. It’s accessible and enjoyable, whether or not you want to peel back the allegorical layers or not. Spiritualized are an English space rock band formed in 1990 in Rugby, Warwickshire by Jason Pierce (who often goes by the alias J. Spaceman) after the demise of his previous band Spacemen 3. The membership of Spiritualized has changed from album to album, with Pierce—who writes, composes and sings all of the band's material—being the only constant member.
Spiritualized have released seven studio albums. The best known and most critically acclaimed of these is perhaps 1997's Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating in Space, which NME magazine named as their Album of the Year.
